The Lexar NM620 512GB utilizes the Innogrit IG5216 "RainierQX" controller, a 4-channel architecture designed to maximize throughput on the PCIe 3.0 interface without the cost or footprint of onboard DRAM. Instead of a dedicated cache chip, the drive relies on Host Memory Buffer (HMB) technology and is paired with 3D TLC NAND flash. The NM620 emphasizes burst performance by leveraging a robust pseudo-SLC cache; once that cache is exhausted during sustained large-file transfers, write speeds fall to the native TLC NAND speed. The single-sided M.2 2280 PCB ensures compatibility with thin laptops, and the Innogrit controller can run warmer than comparable Phison-based drives, though it rarely reaches thermal throttling points in ventilated chassis.
