SSD Description
The Crucial P3 2000GB is built on Micron 176-layer QLC NAND paired with a Phison PS5021-E21T controller. It operates without onboard DRAM and uses Host Memory Buffer (HMB) to map the translation layer to system RAM. Although the E21T supports PCIe 4.0, the P3's firmware limits it to PCIe 3.0 x4. The drive relies on a large dynamic pseudo-SLC cache to reach its rated sequential speeds (up to 3500 MB/s read and 3000 MB/s write); once that cache is exhausted during sustained transfers native write speeds can drop sharply. The 2TB model is single-sided and rated for 440 TBW, making it oriented toward read-heavy consumer workloads.

Hardware Alternatives
- Crucial P3 Plus 2000GB: Direct hardware sibling using the same Phison E21T controller and Micron QLC NAND but leveraging the controller's native PCIe 4.0 capability for higher throughput.
- Solidigm P41 Plus: Architectural competitor in the DRAM-less QLC segment that uses a Silicon Motion SM2269XT controller and similarly relies on HMB and QLC flash, with comparable burst performance and endurance limitations.
- Kingston NV2 2000GB: Occupies the same tier with variable bill of materials that may swap between Phison or SMI controllers and between TLC or QLC NAND depending on the manufacturing batch.
