The Crucial T705 represents a maturation of the PCIe 5.0 storage ecosystem, using an optimized variant of the Phison PS5026-E26 controller (Max14um). It pairs a 12nm multi-core controller with Micron 232-layer 3D TLC NAND binned for 2400 MT/s and includes a dedicated LPDDR4 DRAM cache for address translation and reduced write amplification to sustain performance under heavy workstation loads. The primary operational constraint is thermal management: the controller and high-speed NAND generate significant heat, and passive cooling without substantial airflow is insufficient — without a robust heatsink the drive will rapidly engage thermal throttling above 81°C. The T705 is a refresh of the earlier T700, distinguished mainly by the higher NAND I/O speed (2400 MT/s vs 2000 MT/s) that enables it to better saturate the Gen5 x4 interface.
