SSD Description

The Kingston DC600M 1920GB is a 4th-generation enterprise SATA SSD designed for mixed-use server workloads. It uses the Phison PS3112-S12DC 8-channel enterprise controller to manage 3D TLC NAND without pseudo-SLC caching, prioritizing steady-state performance and predictable IOPS under sustained heavy queue depths. The PCB includes hardware-based Power Loss Protection via tantalum capacitors to flush data-in-flight to NAND during power failures. The drive supports configurable over-provisioning for trading usable capacity for higher random write IOPS and endurance, and its thermal management is tuned for high-airflow server chassis to maintain peak write speeds for extended durations.

Hardware Alternatives

  • Samsung PM897: The primary direct competitor in the mixed-use SATA space, using a vertically integrated proprietary Samsung controller and V-NAND with similar latency profiles.
  • Micron 5400 MAX: A close functional alternative targeting the same data center segment, generally using varied controller stacks paired with high-layer TLC and offering comparable PLP and endurance ratings.
  • Kingston DC600R: The hardware sibling sharing the same controller and NAND topology, but tuned for read-intensive workloads with different firmware, less over-provisioning, higher usable capacity, and lower write endurance and random write performance.
