SSD Description
The Corsair MP600 MINI utilizes the Phison PS5021-E21T controller paired with high-density 3D TLC NAND, typically Micron’s 176-layer architecture. This is a DRAM-less design that leverages Host Memory Buffer (HMB) technology, allowing the controller to utilize a portion of system RAM for mapping tables to circumvent the physical space limitations of the M.2 2230 form factor. By adopting the PCIe 4.0 x4 interface, the drive targets the bandwidth capabilities of modern handheld gaming consoles and ultra-compact surface devices, distinguishing itself from older OEM-grade PCIe 3.0 alternatives. The MP600 MINI is a primary candidate for storage expansion in the Valve Steam Deck and ASUS ROG Ally. While the drive is rated for PCIe 4.0 speeds, it remains backward compatible with the Steam Deck’s PCIe 3.0 interface, where it fully saturates the available bus bandwidth. Community stress testing indicates that while the E21T controller is power-efficient, the high density of components on the 30mm PCB results in rapid heat soak; however, instances of severe thermal throttling are rare in typical handheld gaming workloads.

Hardware Alternatives
- Sabrent Rocket 2230: acts as the closest hardware relative, using the same Phison E21T controller and Micron 176-layer TLC NAND combination, resulting in nearly identical performance characteristics and firmware behaviors.
- WD_BLACK SN770M: a direct competitor in the high-performance M.2 2230 segment that uses Western Digital’s in-house controller and BiCS5 TLC NAND; shares the DRAM-less architecture and generally offers slightly higher peak sequential speeds compared to the Phison-based Corsair unit.
- Micron 2400: frequently found as the stock OEM drive in compatible devices; it uses 176-layer QLC NAND rather than TLC, which results in different sustained write performance and lower endurance ratings compared to the MP600 MINI.
